Democracy Support

The objective of SILC’s work is to strengthen democracy. This is achieved through supporting actors and parties working for democratic change as well as civil and political rights. In many of our projects this means assisting those that chooses to take part in the political process – political parties and their members – but we also support civil society organisations.

Democracy is a basic condition for people to improve their own situation and democracy in itself requires respect for civil and political rights. People must be able to replace bad rulers – on the local as well as national level – through free and fair elections. Conditions need to be in place for people and organisations who have earned the trust of the people to dare to run for elections and carry out reforms that improve their societies.
