What we do

SILC is a liberal foundation working with democracy assistance. We collaborate with parties and civil society organisations in order to support their struggle for democracy. Recurring themes in our work are women and youth participation, election monitoring, organisational support, equality and LGBT-issues.
We currently work in Eastern Europe, North Africa and Latin America as well as with a global project supporting freedom of association, Lifeline.

A prerequisite for people to improve their situation is democratic governance. Thus our projects have a clear focus on rights issues. Civil and political rights such as freedom of expression and freedom of association must be respected. People must be able to unseat bad rulers – on the local as well as national level – through free and fair elections. People and organisations backed by the poor should be able to run for elections and carry out improvements to society.
